Welcome to
Mine Hill Township
Morris County, New Jersey

Township Advisory 02/04/14 1:00 PM

Special Weather Message from Mayor Morris:

The National weather service is calling for ice, sleet and snow tonight and tomorrow in varying amounts and times.  It’s going to be an icy, dangerous mess.

To further compound the problem, Mine Hill and every town in NJ are in a severe salt shortage.  We have enough salt to salt the hills in town 1-2 times tomorrow. After that we are completely out of salt.  NO ONE has salt available to purchase. We have called every possible supplier between Albany and Baltimore and there is no salt available.  The State of NJ, Morris County and everyone is out of salt unfortunately.

The steepest streets in town will get priority of the salt we do have.  If you do not have to go out we strongly recommend you stay in tomorrow.  If you go out, please drive as safely as you can.

On the even worse side of the weather news, we “might” be getting a storm on Sunday & Monday with potential of up to 30” of snow.  We doubt we will have salt by the weekend since none is available but we are going to continue to try.

The town has subcontracted with 3 additional drivers with additional trucks to keep the streets clear in these storms.  Our aim is to keep the streets passable for emergency vehicles as best we can during the storms and then of course clean up after.

The civic center is prepared as an emergency warming center in the event of any power outages.

Please check on your neighbors and keep your pets inside if you can during this dangerous weather.
